University of Arkansas Names Indrajeet Chaubey as Next Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor

The University of Arkansas (U of A) has announced the appointment of Indrajeet Chaubey as the next Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective July 1, 2025.

Chaubey will succeed Terry Martin, who will return to a full-time faculty position in the College of Engineering after years of dedicated leadership.

 

A Leader with a Vision for Academic Excellence

Chaubey currently serves as the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut (UConn) and the Director of the Storrs Agricultural Experiment Station.

With a distinguished career in academia spanning over two decades, he brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, research, and student success initiatives.

His appointment marks a return to U of A, where he previously held faculty and administrative positions from 2000 to 2006. Before his role at UConn, he served at Purdue University from 2007 to 2019.

 

Transformative Leadership at UConn

During his tenure at UConn, Chaubey spearheaded several significant initiatives, including:

  • Overseeing record enrollment of both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Increasing scholarship funding by 67%, providing more financial support to students.
  • Doubling external research funding, expanding the university’s research capabilities.
  • Launching multiple new degree programs, broadening academic opportunities for students.

 

A Strong Advocate for Research and Innovation

A globally recognized expert in hydrology and water quality, Chaubey has dedicated his research to understanding the impact of watershed management strategies on water availability, crop production, and ecosystem sustainability.

His work has been widely acknowledged, with over 160 peer-reviewed publications and more than $40 million in research funding secured.

U of A Chancellor Charles Robinson expressed strong confidence in Chaubey’s ability to elevate the university’s academic and research profile.

Academic Credentials and Expertise

Indrajeet Chaubey holds a Doctorate in Biosystems Engineering from Oklahoma State University.

He also earned a Master’s degree in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from U of A and a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Allahabad, India.

 

Recognizing the Contributions of Terry Martin

As Chaubey prepares to assume the role, Chancellor Robinson took the opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding service of outgoing provost Terry Martin.

“I’m also very grateful for having the opportunity to work with Dr. Terry Martin through the years. I want to thank him for his outstanding service and leadership as provost, as well as his dedication to the University of Arkansas over the past 40 years.”

Additionally, Chancellor Robinson extended his gratitude to J.F. Meullenet and the search committee for their efforts in selecting the right candidate for the position.
