Human performance and wearable technology company WHOOP has appointed Indian American cardiologist and digital health leader Ami Bhatt, MD, as its chief medical officer.
Bhatt will oversee the company’s consumer health strategy and help strengthen the clinical foundation of its wearable technology. Her work will focus on connecting continuous physiological data with responsible artificial intelligence and medical expertise to give users more useful insights into their health.
She brings more than two decades of experience spanning clinical medicine, digital health, healthcare innovation and public policy. Before joining WHOOP, Bhatt served as chief innovation officer at the American College of Cardiology.
She also chaired the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Digital Health Advisory Committee, advising the agency on emerging healthcare technologies and regulatory considerations surrounding generative AI.
Earlier in her career, Bhatt served as director of Outpatient Cardiology, TeleCardiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital. She established virtual care programs beginning in 2013 to expand access to specialized cardiac care for patients living far from major medical centers.
Bhatt was also an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. She completed her undergraduate education at Harvard University and earned her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, followed by advanced training in internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiology and adult congenital heart disease.
Her appointment reflects the growing convergence of wearable technology, preventive health and clinical care. At WHOOP, Bhatt will help translate everyday health data into insights that can support both individuals and healthcare professionals.
