ASAN Hub
Bring ASAN to your city?
An ASAN hub is a local chapter/ edition/ group of The American South Asian Network (ASAN) established to promote community connection, cultural pride and support among South Asians. Each hub is led by a local team that organizes monthly events and initiatives to address community needs and foster camaraderie and entrepreneurship. ASAN Hubs receive guidance, promotional support, and resources from ASAN HQ, but operate independently with their own budgets and teams, tailoring their activities to local interests and priorities.
What are the requirements to apply?
You are a team of at least 5 people that will nurture this Hub in your city. At least 2 of the members should be under 21 years of age. At least 3 should be/ identify as female. Hubs are responsible for their own budgets.
High-level, ongoing commitment: each Hub will host at least one in-person event per month. Hub co-founders will attend the monthly national leaders (virtual) call. Hubs are required to be active on social media, at least once a week and share a basic monthly activity report.
What will ASAN provide?
ASAN is vested in the success of each of it’s Hubs. we will empower Hubs in various ways, including but not limited to:
- marketing support: access to branded materials, templates, and other resources
- event concepts: event ideas that align with ASAN’s mission and appeal to local community interests
- networking opportunities: invitations to ASAN-wide events and introductions to potential local partners
- ongoing guidance: strategic assistance, feedback and guidance to support the growth and impact of each hub
Why do we need to have a team?
A team is crucial for maintaining a sustainable ASAN Hub. Individual circumstances change – we get busy, our priorities change, we might move, etc. With a committed team, the hub is resilient and can continue thriving even if one person needs to step back. A team structure also helps bring diversity of leadership, fresh energy and ideas, and a core membership base.
Who can/ should start a Hub?
Anyone. However, ASAN Hub co-founders are passionate about connecting people and promoting South Asian business, culture and values. We are driven, enthusiastic, and proactive to create an inclusive, supportive environment. We have a keen interest in advocacy, community building, and value diversity within the South Asian community. This is by no means definitive or restricting, though here is a demographic of who we believe is more likely to be a co-founder:
age: 18-40, with some in their 40s-50s
profession: artists/ business owners/ gig-workers, mid-level executives, and students
What will our titles be?
We’re all volunteers and as an organization, not title driven. That said, we understand the need for association and clarity. Besides, if it’s not on LinkedIn, is it even real? lol.
If you are a founding team member of an ASAN Hub, you’ll be a co-founder. If you joined the team after the Hub came into existence, you will be a lead. At the founding team’s discretion at the Hub, they may choose to include you as a co-founder.
example: Rahul ASAN Seattle co-founder.
What types of events should we host?
Events should align with ASAN’s mission to unite and empower our community while catering to the needs and celebrating, engaging, and supporting our local communities. Some universal examples include:
- casual gatherings and networking meetups for entrepreneurs, professionals, and students,
- cultural celebrations such as Diwali, Eid, Holi, etc.
- educational workshops for career development, financial literacy, mental health, etc.
- sports and outdoors such as cycling, cricket, hiking, standup paddle boarding, etc.
