Cal State LA professor Manisha Javeri receives Fulbright-Nehru Award

Indian-origin education scholar Manisha Javeri has received a Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award for teaching and research examining artificial intelligence in graduate education.

Javeri is a professor of education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Program at California State University, Los Angeles. She will spend two academic terms in India during the 2026-27 year.

Her Fulbright project will compare how artificial intelligence is incorporated into graduate educational-technology programs at Cal State LA and SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai. The research will examine curriculum design, student outcomes and institutional approaches to emerging technology.

Javeri will also teach courses focused on AI while working with students and faculty in India. The project seeks to develop ethical, culturally responsive curriculum frameworks that universities can use as artificial intelligence becomes more prominent in education.

Originally from India, Javeri earned advanced degrees in physical chemistry and education from the University of Mumbai. She later completed a doctorate in educational technology, with a minor in applied statistics and research methods, at the University of Northern Colorado.

She has also connected technology education with humanitarian and sustainability projects in Africa and Asia. Those initiatives have included solar-energy programs in Mozambique and professional development for educators in Botswana. A Rotary Peace Fellow, she has worked on projects involving peacebuilding and international education.

The United States-India Educational Foundation administers the Fulbright-Nehru program with support from the U.S. and Indian governments. The program offers approximately 50 U.S. Scholar awards across its principal categories each academic year.

Javeri’s award recognizes an Indian-origin American educator whose work links artificial intelligence, teaching and international academic cooperation. Her project will strengthen collaboration between public universities in Los Angeles and Mumbai while contributing to the expanding field of responsible AI education.
