Health In Tech names Sanjay Shrestha chief executive officer

Nepali American business leader Sanjay Shrestha has been appointed chief executive officer of Health In Tech, a Florida-based company that uses technology and automation to simplify the health insurance marketplace. His appointment took effect Oct. 20. Shrestha succeeds company founder Tim Johnson, who has moved into the role of executive chairman. The new structure gives Shrestha responsibility for operating performance, commercial strategy, organizational development, financial execution, business expansion and potential acquisitions. Johnson will remain focused on long-term strategy, technology innovation and product development. Health In Tech said the transition is intended to support its next phase of growth. The company plans to expand adoption of its existing services, strengthen relationships with distributors and insurance carriers and pursue selected partnerships, investments and acquisitions. Its products include HitRix, an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed for brokers working in the self-funded insurance market. Shrestha already knows the company and its leadership. He served as an independent director from April 2025 to August 2026 before becoming a strategic adviser to the board in September.

Before joining Health In Tech, Shrestha was president of Plug Power, a New York-based hydrogen technology company. He joined Plug Power as chief strategy officer in 2019 and later led work involving business expansion, strategic investments, capital markets and integrated energy solutions. During his tenure, the company made multiple acquisitions and raised more than $5 billion to support growth initiatives. His earlier career included senior roles in renewable energy investment, banking and equity research. He served as global head of renewables research at Lazard Capital Markets and held leadership positions at Sky Capital America and Sky Solar Holdings. He also founded Shrestha Global EPG Advisory, where he advises organizations working on the global energy transition. Born and raised in Nepal, Shrestha lives in Saratoga Springs, New York. His appointment places a Nepali American executive with more than two decades of public-market and technology leadership at the helm of a publicly traded U.S. health insurance technology company.
