Adobe has selected Indian American technology executive Anil Chakravarthy as its next president and chief executive officer. He will join the company’s board of directors when he takes office on Dec. 1, succeeding Shantanu Narayen, who will move into the role of executive chair.
Chakravarthy currently leads Adobe’s Customer Experience Orchestration business and worldwide field operations. The San Jose, California-based company said its board unanimously chose him after a formal selection process, citing his record of expanding businesses, developing products and building teams.
He joined Adobe in January 2020 as executive vice president and general manager of the Digital Experience business. Later that year, he added responsibility for worldwide field operations, serving enterprise customers across Adobe’s creativity, productivity and digital experience portfolio. He was promoted to president of Digital Experience and worldwide field operations in December 2021.
During his tenure, Chakravarthy has helped scale Adobe Experience Platform and led the development of products including Adobe CX Enterprise, GenStudio, Brand Visibility and CX Enterprise Coworker. He also championed Adobe’s acquisitions and integration of Workfront and Semrush, expanding the company’s capabilities in work management and digital marketing.
Before Adobe, Chakravarthy spent four years as CEO of Informatica, an enterprise cloud data management company. He joined Informatica in 2013 as an executive vice president and previously held leadership roles at Symantec, VeriSign and McKinsey & Company.
His education spans India and the United States. Chakravarthy earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India. He later completed a master’s degree and doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The appointment places another Indian American executive at the head of a major U.S. technology company. Chakravarthy will lead Adobe as generative and agentic artificial intelligence reshape creative software, workplace productivity and customer experience. His immediate challenge will be translating Adobe’s established product base and AI investments into sustained growth while maintaining the company’s influence across creative and enterprise markets.
