Dr. Sai Yendamuri Elected Fellow of the American Surgical Association

In prestigious recognition of his contributions to surgical science and oncology, Dr. Sai Yendamuri, a renowned Indian-American thoracic surgeon, has been elected a Fellow of the American Surgical Association (ASA), the oldest and most esteemed surgical organization in the United States.

Dr. Yendamuri currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer and Chair of Thoracic Surgery at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and as Professor of Surgery at the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

He is also the President and CEO of RPCI Oncology P.C., overseeing the growth of Roswell Park’s statewide Care Network to expand high-quality cancer care across New York.

Recognized for Groundbreaking Contributions

The ASA fellowship recognizes Dr. Yendamuri’s decades-long dedication to thoracic surgical oncology, leadership in expanding cancer treatment access, and pioneering research in lung cancer interception.

His research has received continuous funding from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for over 14 years, reflecting sustained innovation in cancer care.

A Career of Excellence in Surgical Leadership

Dr. Yendamuri joined Roswell Park in 2007 after completing his cardiothoracic surgery training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

He holds a medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and an Executive MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

In his leadership role, Dr. Yendamuri has developed a nationally recognized thoracic surgery program, expanded Roswell Park’s reach through the Care Network, and guided translational research that bridges clinical innovation with patient outcomes.

His academic and research credentials are further underlined by:

  • 200+ peer-reviewed publications
  • Notable awards include the Surgical Leaders Fellowship Grant (2023) and Presidential Service Award (2023)
  • Leadership of the Thoracic Surgery Laboratory at Roswell Park.

A Rigorous Selection by the ASA

Founded in 1880, the American Surgical Association is committed to advancing surgical scholarship and scientific progress. Its selection process is highly competitive, involving a 13-month peer-review evaluation by a committee of national surgical leaders.

Dr. Yendamuri will be formally introduced as a Fellow at the ASA’s 2026 Annual Meeting, further cementing his status among the most influential voices in surgical medicine.
