Manoj Mishra joins American Association of Immunologists career committee

Manoj Mishra, professor of biology and founding director of the Cancer Research Center at Alabama State University, has joined the Career Development Core Committee of the American Association of Immunologists.

Mishra began a two-year term on July 1, 2026. The committee evaluates professional development programs for immunologists and recommends new initiatives to support researchers at different stages of their careers.

The American Association of Immunologists is a national scientific organization serving researchers working in immunology and related areas of biomedical science. Its career development programs include grant review support, professional guidance and educational sessions held during the organization’s annual meeting.

Mishra brings experience in cancer biology, academic research and biomedical training. At Alabama State University, he leads research and student development efforts connected to cancer biology and related scientific fields.

His appointment is especially relevant because career development has become an important priority across biomedical research. Early-career scientists often need support in areas such as grant writing, laboratory leadership, mentorship and career planning. Professional organizations can help researchers navigate these challenges and build stronger long-term career pathways.

Mishra’s role also gives Alabama State University greater representation in national discussions about scientific training and workforce development. As a historically Black university, Alabama State plays an important role in expanding access to research and developing students from backgrounds that remain underrepresented in science.

The appointment is also significant for South Asian American representation in scientific leadership. Mishra will help shape programs that support researchers across universities, laboratories, government agencies and the private sector.

Over the next two years, he will work with other committee members to review existing programs, identify gaps and recommend improvements for immunologists nationwide.
