Parul Butala named president of U-Haul’s real estate company

U-Haul has promoted Indian American executive Parul Butala to president of AMERCO Real Estate Company, the real estate arm of U-Haul Holding Company. Her appointment was made on July 17 and formally announced by U-Haul on July 21.

Butala brings more than three decades of experience within the U-Haul organization to the position. She joined the company in 1994 and spent much of her early career as a staff architect with AMERCO Real Estate Company’s construction group.

She later worked with the U-Haul Risk Management team before returning to the company’s real estate operations. Since 2019, Butala has served as director of land use and planning, overseeing work connected to property development and regulatory approvals.

As president, Butala will lead a company responsible for managing U-Haul’s extensive real estate portfolio and development services. AMERCO Real Estate Company was established in 1974 and now supports 2,431 company-owned and operated locations across all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces.

The portfolio includes a major self-storage presence. U-Haul operates approximately 1.14 million rentable storage units covering 99 million square feet, making it the third-largest self-storage operator in North America.

Butala said her priorities will include strengthening communication among teams, supporting field operations and improving how the company acquires, develops and delivers properties. She also emphasized building a workplace culture centered on trust, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Her education combines architectural training with business management. Butala earned a Master of Science in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and an MBA from Arizona State University.

She succeeds Matt Braccia as president of AMERCO Real Estate Company. The promotion places a longtime Indian American employee at the head of the property organization supporting one of the country’s most recognizable moving and self-storage businesses.

Butala’s advancement also reflects a career built through sustained service across architecture, planning, risk management and real estate development.
