UNC Greensboro Appoints Dr. Joyendu Bhadury as Dean of Bryan School of Business and Economics

Following a rigorous national search, UNC Greensboro (UNCG) officially named Dr. Joyendu “Joy” Bhadury as the next Dean of the Bryan School of Business and Economics.

Dr. Bhadury, who has been serving as the Interim Dean since July 2024, will transition into the permanent role on April 1, 2025.

 

A Visionary Leader for the Bryan School’s Future

Provost Alan Boyette expressed his confidence in Dr. Bhadury’s leadership, stating, 

“Dr. Bhadury brings extensive leadership experience, a distinguished record of scholarship, and a deep commitment to student success and community engagement. His vision for innovative business education and his demonstrated success in building strategic partnerships with industry and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration perfectly position him to lead the Bryan School into its next chapter of excellence.”

 

Proven Leadership and Academic Excellence

Dr. Bhadury’s tenure as Interim Dean of the Bryan School has already demonstrated his ability to drive meaningful change. Before this appointment, he served as Dean of the Davis College of Business and Economics at Radford University and the School of Business and Management at the State University of New York (SUNY) – Brockport.

Previously, as Associate Dean of Graduate Programs and Research at the Bryan School, Dr. Bhadury spearheaded major improvements in external research funding and graduate program enrollment, further cementing the school’s reputation for academic rigor and industry relevance.

Reflecting on his appointment, Dr. Bhadury expressed both gratitude and enthusiasm for the role.

Distinguished Scholarship and Industry Impact

A globally recognized scholar in Operations and Supply Chain Management, particularly in Facilities Location Theory, Dr. Bhadury has made significant contributions to both academia and industry.

With over 100 published intellectual contributions, his research has been supported by organizations such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, FedEx, and GlaxoSmithKline.

Throughout his career, he has secured $1.44 million in external contracts and grants, underscoring his ability to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical impact.

Adding to his list of accolades, Dr. Bhadury was recently named a Fulbright Program Specialist (2024–27) in recognition of his contributions to international education.

His extensive teaching experience spans graduate programs across the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Austria, Germany, Ghana, and South Africa, reflecting his commitment to a globally relevant business education.

 

Academic Background and Institutional Excellence

Dr. Bhadury earned his Ph.D. in Management Science with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1991.

His academic journey began with a B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, India, in 1986.

His diverse educational background positions him as a forward-thinking leader attuned to the evolving needs of business education.

The Bryan School of Business and Economics at UNCG is an Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited institution, offering over 20 undergraduate programs, six master’s programs, and four doctoral programs.

Under Dr. Bhadury’s leadership, the school is expected to continue its tradition of excellence, innovation, and student success.

 

Looking Ahead

Dr. Bhadury will succeed Dr. McRae “Mac” Banks, who served as Dean of the Bryan School from 2011 to 2024.
