Indian-Origin Sabih Khan Named Apple’s Next COO

In a major leadership development at Apple Inc., Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin executive with nearly three decades of experience at the tech giant, has been appointed as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

The announcement has created waves in the global tech industry, with “Sabih Khan in news” trending across platforms as Apple undertakes a strategic shift in its top leadership.

Khan will succeed longtime Apple executive Jeff Williams, who is set to retire later this year after a distinguished career. Until then, Williams will continue overseeing Apple Watch and the design team to ensure a smooth transition.

Sabih Khan as COO of Apple: A Strategic Move

Apple CEO Tim Cook hailed the decision, calling Khan a “brilliant strategist and one of the central architects of Apple’s global supply chain.”

“Sabih leads with heart and values, and I know he will make an exceptional Chief Operating Officer,” Cook stated, highlighting Khan’s leadership in expanding Apple’s U.S. manufacturing and reducing its carbon footprint by over 60%.

As COO of Apple, Sabih Khan will now be responsible for global operations, including supply chain management, manufacturing, product fulfillment, and supplier responsibility programs.

His promotion comes at a time when Apple is strengthening its presence in India and focusing on sustainability and ethical production practices

Who Is Sabih Khan?

Sabih Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, and later moved to Singapore at the age of 10.

He pursued his higher education in the United States, earning dual bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from Tufts University, followed by a master’s in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Before joining Apple, Khan worked at GE Plastics (now SABIC) as an application development engineer and key account technical leader.

He joined Apple in 1995, and over the years, he has been instrumental in building a resilient, sustainable global supply chain that helped Apple navigate challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and global trade disruptions.

Sustainability & Manufacturing Leadership

In his role as Senior Vice President of Operations, Khan played a pivotal role in forming partnerships with green manufacturing suppliers, introducing cutting-edge production technologies, and implementing employee safety and education programs across Apple’s global manufacturing sites.

Under his guidance:

  • Apple expanded its U.S. manufacturing capabilities
  • Shifted strategic manufacturing bases away from China to India and other regions
  • Achieved a 60%+ reduction in carbon emissions

India at the Center of Apple’s Future

Khan’s Indian heritage and global experience make him a symbolic and strategic choice as Apple strengthens its manufacturing footprint in India.

With increasing pressure in the U.S. to bring jobs home and reduce reliance on China, Apple is investing heavily in India, working with partners like Foxconn and Pegatron.

Industry experts believe Sabih Khan, as COO of Apple, will play a key role in shaping this new phase of operational expansion and innovation.
