San Ramon Regional Medical Center is set to undergo a significant leadership transition in November with the appointment of Dr. Murali Naidu as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Dr. Naidu, an Indian-origin healthcare leader, currently serves as the CEO of Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock and is transitioning from that role to lead San Ramon Regional, a hospital under the Tenet Healthcare umbrella.
His appointment underscores the increasing prominence of Indian-origin professionals in key leadership roles within the U.S. healthcare sector.
A Proven Leader with Bay Area Ties
Dr. Naidu brings with him extensive experience in healthcare leadership, particularly within the Tenet Healthcare system.
With a career spanning several executive roles, his leadership at Emanuel Medical Center has been marked by notable improvements in patient care, operational efficiency, and staff engagement.
His move to San Ramon Regional Medical Center, effective November 4th, will mark the end of interim CEO Beenu Chadha’s tenure, who will return to her role as the hospital’s Chief Financial Officer.
“What makes San Ramon Regional special is the feeling of community both inside and outside the doors,” Naidu said in Tenet’s announcement. “One thing I loved about my previous two hospitals was that the teams there really cared about each other and the patients, and I could sense that here, right away.”
A graduate of UC Berkeley and a current board member of both Oakland’s Head Royce School and the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California, Dr. Naidu has deep roots in the Bay Area.
His local ties, combined with his extensive healthcare leadership background, make him a well-suited leader for San Ramon Regional as it embarks on its next chapter.

The Journey to Permanent Leadership
San Ramon Regional Medical Center has been without a permanent CEO since October 2022, when former CEO Ann Lucena resigned after more than four years in the role, which included the challenging early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Lucena’s departure, the hospital was led on an interim basis first by Warren Kirk and later by Beenu Chadha when Kirk retired in June 2023. Dr. Naidu’s appointment marks the hospital’s return to stable, long-term leadership, after over a year of interim guidance.
Naidu’s Vision for the Future
In his new role, Dr. Naidu has expressed a clear vision for the future of San Ramon Regional Medical Center. As a seasoned leader, he is expected to continue the hospital’s legacy of medical excellence while bringing a renewed focus on personalized patient care, community engagement, and innovative medical technologies.
Under his leadership, the hospital will continue to build upon its reputation as a pioneer in the region, which includes being the first hospital west of the Mississippi to utilize the da Vinci surgical robot and maintaining highly decorated maternity programs.
Dr. Naidu emphasized that, while cutting-edge medicine is essential, it is the sense of community that makes San Ramon Regional unique.
His approach will likely mirror the success he achieved at his previous hospitals, where he fostered a culture of teamwork and compassion, ensuring that both staff and patients felt valued.
Legal and Ownership Challenges
Dr. Naidu steps into his role amid a backdrop of legal and organizational challenges for San Ramon Regional Medical Center.
His appointment comes after the dissolution of an acquisition deal between Tenet Healthcare, the hospital’s majority owner, and John Muir Health.
The acquisition would have seen SRRMC come under John Muir Health’s ownership. Still, the deal was terminated in December 2023 following lawsuits from the Federal Trade Commission and California Attorney General Rob Bonta.
The lawsuits alleged that the acquisition would have created a monopoly on emergency healthcare services in the I-680 corridor.
With Tenet retaining its majority stake and John Muir Health holding onto its 49% share an investment made in 2013, Dr. Naidu’s leadership will focus on stabilizing the hospital’s operations while navigating the complexities of shared ownership and ensuring the hospital remains competitive in the region’s healthcare landscape.
A Bright Future for San Ramon Regional Medical Center
San Ramon Regional Medical Center, a prominent acute-care hospital in the East Bay, offers a wide range of healthcare services, including emergency, maternity, orthopedics, and heart care.
Known for its innovative medical technology and patient-centered care, the hospital plays a crucial role in the region’s healthcare system.
Under Dr. Naidu’s leadership, SRRMC is supposed to continue expanding its services and building upon its strong reputation.
His leadership will ensure that the hospital continues its tradition of medical excellence and remains a vital part of the East Bay community. “I think San Ramon Regional might be the best secret in the East Bay,”
Dr. Naidu remarked, showcasing his excitement to lead the institution into its next phase of growth and service.
